Criw Cymraeg

Criw Cymraeg is a pupil voice group who are instrumental in leading the Siarter Iaith Cymraeg Campus Charter at Rhydypenau. Their goal is to encourage everyone to speak Welsh and to  promote a strong Welsh ethos throughout our school. Criw Cymraeg have developed a Welsh action plan and they meet fortnightly to work on this. The Criw are crucial in encouraging a love for the Welsh language and creating a sense of Cynefin.

Some of Criw Cymraeg’s key responsibilities include: leading weekly Welsh assemblies, giving awards to children for speaking Welsh, planning whole-school events such as our School Eisteddfod and Dydd Santes Dwynwen, as well as supporting younger year groups with Welsh reading and much more!

Meet our Criw Cymraeg 2025-26!

Name: Alice

Year: 4
Role: Criw Cymraeg

Interests/Hobbies:

I like history because you can learn about old-un days and lots of fun stuff that you did not know . My favourite sport is cheerleading because I am an athlete and I also like badminton. I am kind and friendly, so I can listen to your ideas and will care about your ideas and use them carefully. And I love reading because it calms me down, and it's relaxing also for bed.

Qualities and skills:

I love speaking Welsh and I love helping people to learn things like Welsh, for example. I am really good at art.

My aims for Criw Cymraeg:

We could speak way more Welsh at play time, lunchtime and in class. You can be taught more Welsh.

Name: Ella

Year: 5

Role: Criw Cymraeg

Interests/Hobbie:

In my spare time, I attend piano lessons, swimming and dance classes.  I also enjoy languages, art, listening to music and socialising with my friends.

Qualities and skills:

I’m fluent in Welsh and English, I’m inclusive, kind and friendly.  I’m always happy to help everyone out, and I try my best at everything I do. I love the Welsh language, and I’m really happy to be part of the Criw Cymraeg to encourage Welsh in a fun way around the school.

My aims for Criw Cymraeg:

The Criw Cymraeg priorities this year should be to use Cymraeg Bob Dydd more in and around school.  We could also look at ways to encourage pupils to speak and use Cymraeg more. For example, reward children for using Welsh maybe through our dojo scheme, or swogs can show others how to play games in Welsh at playtime.  They can also try to achieve Gold Cymraeg Campus this year.

Name: Manon

Year: 6
Role: Criw Cymraeg

Interests/Hobbies:

I love designing and creating themed things, including posters. I also enjoy playing football and netball to keep me healthy. I like speaking Welsh at home and with some of my friends. I am a great singer and I love musicals and the colour lilac.

Qualities and skills:

I am dedicated and hardworking, but I love to have a joke. I’m empathetic, and you can always come to me for advice. My dad only speaks Welsh to me and my brother, who was also in Criw Cymraeg so I am quite good at Welsh.

My aims for Criw Cymraeg:

I want there to be more Welsh posters in the corridors and more Welsh games on the playground. I think we should also have a Welsh after-school club for children who want to learn more Welsh.

Name: Molly

Year: 5
Role: Criw Cymraeg

Interests/Hobbies:

My hobbies are drawing, socialising with friends and keeping fit and healthy.  I enjoy walking, going to the beach and climbing outdoors. In my spare time I play the piano, go swimming and attend dance classes.

Qualities and skills:

I’m fluent and able to speak Cymraeg and English with confidence.  I’m organised, sociable and caring.  I’m proud to be a Welsh and English speaker, and I’m excited to share my Welsh skills with others to help them become confident in using the language.

My aims for Criw Cymraeg:

I think Criw Cymraeg should try new ways of getting more and more children to speak Welsh in school and to try and win the Gold Cymraeg Campus this year.  Some ideas I have are to get an Urdd after-school club and activities, celebrate 'Dydd Santes Dwynwen’ and have a Welsh speaking stall at our school fayres.

Name:Seren

Year: 6
Role: Criw Cymraeg

Interests/Hobbies

My favourite hobbies to do are practising gymnastics in my garden with my mum. I also love art, especially painting and clay.  I love playing piano and I love going on outdoor adventures with my family. I also try to speak as much Welsh as I can at home even though most of the time my family don’t understand what I'm saying.

Qualities and skills:

I am really good at speaking Welsh to prove that i am on the highest level of success criteria in Welsh. I will listen to everyone's ideas, no matter how big or small, and say them in meetings. Over previous years, Criw Cymraeg have given a cushion to their friends, but i will make sure i give it to anyone who deserves it.

My aims for Criw Cymraeg

My aim for Criw Cymraeg is to encourage the younger children to speak Welsh and play Welsh games more in the yard. Make Welsh lessons all round more interactive, so it encourages children to speak more Welsh in and outside of school.
