Eco

The eco committee follows the eco schools programme. Every year we carry out an environmental review, develop an action plan and produce an eco-code. Our code this year is 'Don't be mean, keep Rhydypenau clean'. We meet fortnightly to inform, involve and monitor our progress. Last year we achieved the prestigious Green Flag award! Examples of actions that we are working on this year are helping to set up our 'sustainability shop' and continuing to promote recycling in our school.

Name: Maria

Year: 6
Role: Eco Committee

Interests/ hobbies:

I like gardening because it makes the area greener. I like to play with my friends and go on adventures in the forest. I'm also very good at cycling. I started cycling at 1–2 years old. I also do horse riding (it's great fun!) I love learning about Eco and learning how to grow plants. I’m also going to do litter picking because I want the areas to be beautiful, so people can enjoy fresh air instead of rubbish.

Qualities and skills:

I’m a very good listener, and I’m also very energetic and fast. I can be persuasive. I’m kind and clever, and I can cheer up people when they’re sad and also help people who need help. I have a Christmas tree at home, and it’s so big – I decided that this tree will be my Christmas tree instead of having a fake tree. I also help little children if they fall, even if they are strangers.

My aims for the Eco Council:

I hope our school gets greener and healthier, and so we can decorate our green areas and turn dark areas into light areas. We could have a suggestion box and people can put in ideas so we can choose one to see and try to help our school and world to be greener, and we should stop littering because I see litter everywhere and that makes me feel sad. And we should stop wasting paper because every tree counts as one piece of paper, and if we lose many many trees, we would not have oxygen. We could do lessons for small children about the environment so they can help us when they are older.
