Cymraeg Campus

 Cymraeg at Rhydypenau

Cymraeg Campus:

Cymraeg Campus is a Language Charter that promotes Welsh throughout our school. The purpose of this Language Charter is to provide a clear framework which can be used to promote and increase the use of Welsh by children in our whole school context. The Charter’s main objective is to promote a strong Welsh ethos in Rhydypenau.

It is our intention to provide a range of enriching activities that propel children to enjoy learning the Welsh language and embrace our Welsh culture. The Language Charter encourages participation from every member of the school community, including staff, pupils and their parents, school governors and the wider community. We are very excited to embark on this journey as a school!

Awards:

To ensure that all efforts are rewarded, the Charter is based on the principle that we must follow challenging, yet attainable targets in connection with promoting the use of the Welsh language.

As a school, we are proud to have already achieved the Bronze and the Silver award! We are working hard as a school to continue our Welsh journey and hope to achieve the Gold Cymraeg Campus award next year.

Criw Cymraeg

This academic year we have established a Criw Cymraeg who are instrumental in leading and driving the Language Charter forward at Rhydypenau Primary School. Our current Criw Cymraeg is made up of pupils from year 3-year 6.

Dyma Criw Cymraeg!

Criw are responsible for:

  • Promoting a whole school Welsh ethos at Rhydypenau Primary School.
  • Improving pupil voice throughout our school.
  • Celebrating Welsh language belonging and culture throughout the school.
  • Encouraging both children and adults to speak Welsh.
  • Promoting the positive benefits of speaking Welsh.
  • Delivering Welsh Assemblies with awards for ‘Seren yr wythnos’.
  • Demonstrating playground games in Welsh.
  • Implementing Cymraeg Campus and gathering evidence to achieve our school targets.
  • Teaching children throughout the school the Welsh ‘Brawddeg yr Wythnos’ (Phrase of the Week).
  • Planning celebrations such as our School Eisteddfod, Dydd Santes Dwynwen and Dydd Miwsig Cymru.
